The Format were never in daily rotation for me. I dug them, gave the albums a few spins, and moved on.
Fun.on the otherhand was a different story. After a night at the bar, the wife and I can be found belting out lyrics like they’ve been part of our lives forever. Dancy trash but our dancy trash.
Boycott God is political punk from one of the most emo-adjacent bands out there, and that alone deserves credit. It’s blunt and unafraid to say something, which begs the question, where’s everyone else’s courage to speak up? In a genre (adjacent) that used to thrive on confrontation, this album takes more jabs than any of it's pioneers.
“No Gold at the Top” is a standout and feels genuinely epic, the first several tracks are amazing tbh.
There’s a noticeable dip in the middle of the record. What starts as a solid 9+ slides down to a 6ish, but the album wakes itself back up with the titular track and finishes strong.
As of Jan 2026, it's in contention for album of the year, but there's a lot of year left.
